Super Science!

The Primary School had dedicated a whole week to science!  Each class is investigating a science strand or scientist and having loads of fun at the same time.  There’s so much going on – water investigations, bug hotels, pushes and pulls, cars, micro-biology and Scottish scientists.  There are lots of fun practical activities and experiments going on, as well as school trips and guest speakers, there’s barely enough time for a spelling test – unless it’s science vocabulary of course!  So much learning and all in the name of SCIENCE.

The great enterprise exhibition.

Q: What can you do with 1€?

A: Make loads of money!

The primary school have started the PHSE challenge to make the most amount of money with only one Euro! The children came up with their own ideas and ways to generate money for their class and promoted their schemes using recycled card and paper.  On Friday the children put their ideas to the test. There were book marks to buy, games to play, sweets in a jar, toys and even an assault course! Parents came to participate and the fun continued until nearly 5 o´clock! On this occasion, Mrs Gray´s class won by raising 43.40€! But don´t worry, there´s still chance for the other classes to catch up and take the lead!
Look out for our next enterprise opportunity and help us to raise more money for our classes, whilst having lots of fun!

Beware of the WITCHES!!!!

As part of our Roald Dahl celebrations, the Upper Primary class read the scary story ‘The Witches’.  For their assembly, the children presented the story to the rest of the school using slide shows.  They retold the stories about how 5 children had ‘mysteriously’ disappeared after meeting witches in disguise, performed a short play about the Grand High Witch and told the secrets of the witches plans to destroy all the children of ‘INKLAND!’

The assembly finished with a reminder of how to spot a witch as they could be hiding anywhere, your teacher might even be one!

So remember children, be careful, be VERY CAREFUL!

International Day 2016

Once again it’s October!  As always Sierra Bernia School will participate in the International day Fair, being held at the polydeportivo of a Alfas Del Pi.  It has always been a huge success.  This fair has a turnout of about 3000 people! The students of Business Studies have always participated in this fair to get a real life experience of display, promotion, sales and accountability.
It would be nice to see as many students of SBS and their parents to motivate our young entrepreneurs.
Look out for our feedback and the report of our experience along with some pictures, next week right here, on our website!

Here are some memories of our participation in the past years!

KS3 – Chocolate Icecream!

Key Stage 3 enjoyed a very cool and sweet Food technology lesson, by learning to make the most healthy chocolate Icecream! The most interesting thing was that this Icecream had neither milk nor cream in it.  No sugar was used.  It was made of only fresh bananas, strawberries, cacao and honey!  All had a great time!

Roald Dahl Week

We kicked off the school year by celebrating the birthday of one of the world-s best children’s authors, Roald Dahl.  Classes across the Primary school read a different Roald Dahl book and participated in a range of fun themed activities.  They also were busy making Revolting Recipes, inventing Gobble funk names and creating their own dream jars!

The children enjoyed eating and drinking their ‘Revolting Recipe’ creations at the Roald Dahl street party, before hooking up to the live link to watch the special Roald Dahl live show.

And let’s not forget the terrifically terrible Twits performance put on by the children to finish of the week.  Well done everyone!

Trip to EUIPO (OHIM)

Secondary students got the opportunity to visit EUIPO, Alicante which is the biggest European Union Agency for registering Trademarks and Designs for the 28 EU countries. It would be an understatement if we said that it was an amazing experience. We are short of words in describing how perfect it was. We cannot thank Mr Sema Fabian enough for his valuable information he shared with us, in the most lucid manner. He managed to keep all the students interested for two full hours, with his intersting talk. His little punches brought humour into what could have been dry and bland otherwise. Our students interacted very well, both asking the right quetions and answering in an impressive manner. EUIPO is a very impressionable campus. A small town in its own. We are fortunate to have been there, not an easy bet for all. We have been invited to send students for work experience and as interns.
All in all a very ‎successful trip.

The children enjoyed learning about lots of different animals and had so much fun with the shows! When they had finished exploring, the children had a great time in the park. To end a fabulous day the children got to have  their photo taken with the mundomar mascots.

Reception and Year 1 Summer Assembly

Reception and year one’s summer assembly was all about sea animals. The children chose the animals to use, the facts to read and also the songs to sing. It was an amazing performance created solely by the children of both year groups. For many weeks the children practised really hard and continued to change the format until they were totally happy with the presentation from beginning to end! Maybe we are seeing the beginnings of future directors, and I am sure there are also a few budding actors within the group!!! They were very proud of their performance and this is so nice to see in children so young. Tolerance and respect are skills that we are not born with and these have to be learnt. In all our classes this has been emphasised and reinforced and by listening to others we quickly learn to be part of a wider group both in work and play. This is essential as we have four nationatilities in our class and the final song the children chose reflects the real diversity of the world we live in and also the class in chich we work. The children learnt all the songs really quickly but the final song was their favourite. Twelve little super stars took to the stage today at the Sierra Bernia School and, as their teacher, I could not be more proud of them all! Thank you to all the parents for attending and supporting your children, I hope you enjoyed the assembly as much as myself and your wonderful children!

Cooking time…. Indian Samosas… Food technology KS3

Year 7 and Year 8 participated in the session of making samosas, an Indian delicacy, in their food technology lessons.   They showed a lot of excitement and interest.   They participated in the whole process.  They made samosas following the teacher from start to finish.  I’m sure they could try their hands on making these at home, on their own.

Throughout the course they have been using tablets and Ipads for activities related to science, history, geography, languages, ICT and almost all their subjects. In groups, with tablets in hand, students were showing us a selection of the most interesting projects throughout the course. Amazing Videos, presentations and also games were shown and explained to the assistants.
